Hahn advises both children and young writers "to not worry about being published but enjoy the writing itself." She advocates much reading and the use of personal memories and experience. "Writers begin as readers," says Mary Downing Hahn, two-time winner of the Utah Children's Choice Award for "The Dead Man in Indian Creek" and "Wait Till Helen Comes." Hahn will be in Salt Lake City this weekend to participate in the "Day of a Thousand Books" read-a-thon and as speaker at the Utah Children's Book Award annual meeting. ![]()
